Journalism Current Events Paper

In the Weather Channel’s news report, “Ocean, Atmospheric Conditions Over Tropical Pacific Show Signs of Strong El Nino, WMO Says” it states that El Nino is the biggest weather change since the 1950’s. In winter 2015, many states in the south including Texas experienced snow in late February, that was caused by El Nino and it brings extreme weather for example: Snow in February, rain all of April and May, extreme heat and droughts during the summer, and it plans to stay this way for awhile. Not only does it affect the south, but everywhere too. This fall, there’s predictions that temperatures will drop and the south will actually experience fall weather, but northern states will be warmer than usual. El Nino has many pros and cons such as: harsher winters for the south and more extreme weather in the near future, but I believe that this is a blessing because it’s balancing out the weather in America. This affects us and the world because the every continent gets hit by El Nino.
