Current Event – Pixar Releases

New Pixar movies are in rumor and might even be true. In the article “4 of the Next 6 Pixar Films Are Sequels, Including The Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4” found on “>Vulture.com, and more like “Finding Dory” and “Cars 3” as well as new movies like “Good Dinosaur” and “Moana”. All of the movies except “Good Dinosaur” won’t be released for another 2-4 years. Although the lengthy wait that feels like forever, this is great because if you were born from 1995-today, you were raised on Buzz & Woody and Nemo and it affects us all. Our childhood will hopefully carry on for more generations the awesome characters we grew up with. I’ll definitely be 18 and be going to see “Incredibles 2” in summer of 2019. I believe that these movies will inspire people across the world we’ll experience more great movies.

Sometime in October, there will be another hearing for Mack Breed in whether he’s found guilty or not, he will no longer be able to coach again. This doesn’t affect me, but I’m sure this will affect high school football teams across the nation.

Journalism Current Events Paper

In the Weather Channel’s news report, “Ocean, Atmospheric Conditions Over Tropical Pacific Show Signs of Strong El Nino, WMO Says” it states that El Nino is the biggest weather change since the 1950’s. In winter 2015, many states in the south including Texas experienced snow in late February, that was caused by El Nino and it brings extreme weather for example: Snow in February, rain all of April and May, extreme heat and droughts during the summer, and it plans to stay this way for awhile. Not only does it affect the south, but everywhere too. This fall, there’s predictions that temperatures will drop and the south will actually experience fall weather, but northern states will be warmer than usual. El Nino has many pros and cons such as: harsher winters for the south and more extreme weather in the near future, but I believe that this is a blessing because it’s balancing out the weather in America. This affects us and the world because the every continent gets hit by El Nino.

Swallowing Stones Book Report

In the book, Swallowing Stones, 17 year old Michael MacKenzie starts his summer by hosting his birthday pool party on the 4th of July weekend. On his birthday, he receives a Winchester rifle from his grandfather. Michael’s friend Joe brings the “babe” of Briarwood High school, Amy Ruggiero into Michael’s garage and Michael shoots the rifle in the air once and sets it down, walks over to Amy and they start to kiss. Michael also has a girlfriend, Darcy. Later that night Michael feels bad for doing what he does, but falls asleep. The next morning Michael and Joe leave for Michael’s driving test, while driving to the DMV, breaking news blasted from the stereo system that Briarwood man, Charlie Ward, killed while patching his roof was shot around noon on the day of Michael’s party. Michael begins to worry and becomes anxious, he fails the driving test and drives home. Over the next few weeks he spends his days learning about Charlie and his family, especially his daughter, Jenna Ward.
Jenna Ward witnessed the shooting. The whole first few days was hard for them. Jenna spent many days having anxiety attacks and felt empty. She felt nothing. Throughout the investigation, Amy and Jenna become friends and Amy sends a letter that explains that she feels the same way because both of her parents died when she was little. When Jenna receives the letter she reads it repeatedly, that was the first time she really breaks down. One night, Jenna and her boyfriend go to the movies and it’s an action movie filled with gunshots and police, she freaks out and runs to the bathroom where she has an anxiety attack, Amy came to save her at the right time, but Jenna doesn’t remember it later on.

Over the weeks after the shooting, Michael and Joe begin to worry, but Joe handles his anxiety with alcohol and cigarettes. The investigation starts a ballistic team that traces back to the four-block radius, the same area Michael’s shot came from. Local police start to believe something is peculiar when they ask to see the Winchester and he calls Joe and he says it’s gone “missing” without him reporting a stolen gun. Michael and Joe soon become low-key suspects. One day when Michael is at work he realizes he needs to swallow the stone and decides to just leave the investigation alone, but only makes it worse because one afternoon when search warrants are rummaging through his yard and house.
Finally, as school is approaching, at 3am Michael sneaks out gets the Winchester and goes to the “Ghost Tree” a local “healing tree” in the swamp where Jenna is laying near asleep. As the morning approaches, Michael decides to Jenna everything when she awakes and then go turn himself in at the police station.

Swallowing Stones Persuasive Speech

Gun control is the topic that is causing debates, especially with the NRA. President Obama wants background checks, plans to ban all Military style weapons, and wants to launch a gun safety campaign in the near future. To me, that doesn’t sound like it’s going to help. I am all for not having gun control and here’s why,

Republicans are controversial and Democrats are the same. No one can agree on this issue. Gun control is a chaotic topic between many Americans. Many politicians like Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders agree with gun control, but Ted Cruz and Rick Perry are totally against it. Democrat, James Webb doesn’t even want gun control. I believe Americans should focus on self control rather than gun control.

Everyone cares about their safety, but are debating on how to handle it. Americans believe that if we have gun control, then gun crime will reduce, but some people believe it’s not the gun, it’s the person and that’s correct, but even if we have gun control, a burglar can still get ahold of a gun just as easily. Guns aren’t dangerous, people are.

Some people are using the 2nd Amendment, Right To Bear Arms in their debate. They’re saying that if we have gun control, then it’s taking our rights away. Most Americans aren’t aware of what the 2nd Amendment is actually written for, the English colonists had lived under a tyrant ruler. They were forced to live by rules set by the King and basically had no freedom. Rights such as the 2nd Amendment gives us common Americans the guarantee of not falling back into that type of tyranny. My opinion is that all Americans desire to live in a free society and by keeping our rights and freedoms, we must do our part to ensure those liberties.

Gun control is basically not a well thought out plan. It again comes down to self control. If a person wants to commit a violent act, which we have seen it done before by criminals using box cutters used for cutting boxes, machetes used for clearing brush and limbs, and of course guns used for sport or hunting.
These objects that save us in the daily life, have been used out of context by a person. It’s not the “weapon” or object, it’s the simply the person.
